Gulf Shores, Alabama

posted on: Saturday, May 30, 2009

The past couple of days have included time spent with Emma, Trish, Lily, and Grits with blue skies, white sand, Pabst Blue Ribbon, and layers of SPF on the beaches of Gulf Shores, Alabama.  We have cooked many fantastic meals one of my favorites being the sauteed shrimp (bought at a local stand, and de-pooped and veined by all us ladies) in oil & chunks of garlic over a bed of noodles with a cream-marinara sauce. MmmMM..  Yesterday Emma brought me breakfast in bed, an everything bagel with cheese & spinach and a slice of pepperjack cheese all toasted to yummy goodness! Needless to say we have been eating very good considering we haven't eaten in one local restaurant, saving that cash money is easy to do when you have great cooks in the house.  I haven't my camera with me, *SIGH,* but we have been taking some photos that I'll share later, as for now I leave you with some fun pics courtesy of Flickr from the 1960s.

Lily (Trish's little girl) is a soon to be five yr. old with a wild personality thats had us all over the place playing in sand, swimming in the pool at all hours, and watching all the Sponge Bob Square Pants I can possible handle.

This photo and the following are so darling I couldn't help but post, I love the bandana tied around her head and everyone's swim gear, retro!

I am currently searching for a similar suit via Ebay && Etsy, HOW RAD is this?!?!

Today I will be sporting my handed down unicorn t-shirt since my back is burned worse than ever before, such a shame too, I layered sunscreen on all day but MUST have forgot the upper back. sucks but taking refuge under the umbrella isn't all that bad...

Death Proof

posted on: Wednesday, May 27, 2009

Today I awoke to fresh waffles (thanks Mommah!) out at my parental's house on lake Tuscaloosa after spending the night with the fam continuing the celebration of Buck's (my middle brother) graduation from WashU.  We hung around the lake sipping on beers while my pops and Buck played a game of redneck golf, a gift I gave the boys for Christmas, enjoying the company of having just the five of us at the homestead.  My family met Grits for the first time, including the cats Murf and Cliff, (my two cats who have now turned into lake kitties) which went pretty well other than a small ambush courtesy of Murf.

After a good start my day went south thanks to Verizon and Comcast Cable. Not that I'm going to complain (on blog) about the highway robbery of these two services but I will say they have ruined more than one day of my life. I chilled out with some cold Amstel Lights, cranked up tunes, and packed the last bits of the shit remaining in my house...hopefully the tedious task of moving 3.5 hours away will soon be over and I can get to the fun part, decorating!

Lately I've been looking like a bum (that means no outfit post, no way!) but I guess that's what squatting in a house with nothing but a rocking chair, old ass food, single mattress (on floor), and boxed up baggage will do to ya. running up and down and up and down the stairs also helps out. but At LEAST I am still intercepting internet from next door, I was able to watch Grind House: Death Proof via Netflix instant play and was really impressed! The cast was a group of awesome ladies (including Rosario Dawson, Vanessa Ferlito, Jordan Ladd, Rose McGowan) with fun style as well as Kurt Russel as Stuntman Mike. I don't want to say too much other than I would recommend it, little gory in some parts but not as bad as most Q.T. films.

remember my comment about the failed attempt at making it to the Decatur Arts Festival on Saturday afternoon? Well if not, I didn't make it. due to R.A.I.N. No more like a torrential downpour. to the max. My mini umbrella was turning inside out, dress flying every which way, families running all over the place seeking shelter, and pretty sure my undergarments were visible. ha! I can laugh about it now but at the time it was awful. I didn't get to see one piece of art, eat not one funnel cake, or drink one tasty beer.  The only solution to my wet'n'wild outing was turning around and going home, simply too wet to enjoy the day even if it did clear up..really not exaggerating, as soon as I stepped into the open from the parking deck I got dumped on. afterwards settled for a chai tea latte and the internet. eh.

on a happier note I was awarded a blog award from the lovely Mina via The Fabulous Girl's Guide to Fashion, thanks!!!

sliding doors & a snoring dog

Couple nights ago sported a look from before changed it up with some skinnies, moccasins, and my vintage Liz Claiborne purse purchased from Ebay since we were cruzing via the bikes.
▣▣▣▣
this afternoon I'm hoping to hop on the road back to the old crib and pack up some more, we'll see how it goes. As for now I'm watching the last bit of Sliding Doors (1998) over the air waves my babes' new diy antenna is picking up, while Grits is snoring away. loudly might I add.

the boys jamming out on a chill night, not too many people came so they had the opportunity to do whatever they pleased.  Another day lounging around the crib, after a failed attempt at going to the Decatur Arts Festival due to miserable rain. oh bless the rain, can't wait for the umbrellas to be left at home for a while!

hope everyone's weekend is delightful!

Josephine de La Baume

while walking Grits this morning I discovered a hip little coffee/shake&smoothies/eatery down the block called Tilt and later went exploring for a snack without the pouch. Dp and I sat down with some magazines-mine including Loft Living & Elle (May 09) and his a local publication about the happenings after ordering a mid afternoon treat, which I completely recommend-that place is yummy! Flipping through the pages of Elle I came across an article about Josephine de La Baume and was blown away by her style. for example,

looks like she's at a festival lovin life//

Due to the Southeast experiencing showers galore and ((around these parts)) horrible traffic due to the holiday weekend I am left "trapped". I use the word trapped sarcastically because I really could go home but would much rather put off the drive a couple more days, even though I still have tons of work to do back home, packing and such//but while I'm "trapped" we are thinking about going through the art walk around here if the weather isn't so nasty-I have some photos from last nights jazz outing checking out Kevin down the block && will post those here soon. chilly night=last days of wearing my suede boots.

looking a tad bare, but soon soon it will be c.o.m.p.l.e.t.e.
the next two photos represent our overall color scheme-blue (Dusty's fav color) and green (my fav) but there's also yellow mixed in, of course. That green couch nearly had to be split into pieces but as long as we never move again, should be fine. heheh.

this is a set of vintage salt pinches that hold small earrings and things//

don't believe this two prong hook is vintage but it sure does appear so, found in a cute shop in downtown Northport, Alabama.

We've had yet another l.o.n.g. day of settling in but have managed to share lots of laughs and venture around finding a Koger and sorts..

another ceremony, another damn breakfast at the Pancake House, another car ride with the family, and finally after riding in several storms with zero visibility we made it to Birmingham.

We ran in and out of a Savannah's place getting decent from our rides and went to a beautiful wedding at an old mansion in the Highlands of the 'ham where we danced and celebrated a long awaited event. The groom's mom plays in a rockin cover band and they performed everything from Tom Petty//Fleetwood Mac//to Guns-N-Roses. Following their final song I hollered for "one more!" and they decided to go with "Rhiannon" ((by Fleetwood Mac)) and invited me in to play the tambourine, a total dream come true! I was ushered to sing but didn't know the words well enough so I just jammed//

this is what I wore for the commencement ceremony on Saturday at WashU's Quadrangle, a dress from a boutique called Lotus.

(vintage bag, shoes by Bare Traps, vintage shades and Lucky Brand necklace)

WashU's campus is so pretty, this castle-like building was to my right for the ceremony and with the clouds it was a dreamy sight to see-as well as most the architecture around.

sorry if my posts seem a bit scrambled, I am literally a traveling nomad at the moment.

Today was also a big day//We got the keys to the loft!!!! More to come on that later, chilling out in Atlanta preparing to wake up and drive yet again.

Pappy's Smoke House

The past couple of days have been a busy busy blur-jam packed with lots of traveling, ceremonies, dinners, and family drama galore!
Yesterday we attended part 1 of 2 graduation events for Buck, gambled a bit at Harrah's where I lost $35.00 in a matter of minutes (!!!!)  and went to Pappy's Smoke House for the Phi Delta Theta senior night party.

I Wish Wednesday

posted on: Wednesday, May 13, 2009

Haven't done a "I Wish Wednesday" in a minute and what a better time to do it than while stuck in a hotel room with the fam..

I wish for amazing floral cabinets like these!

I wish for some funky neck bling like these ladies! Check out their admirer in the background, hah!

I wish to wear a romper everyday, they are so comfy!
This romper will soon be up for sale on EBV, I will let everyone know when new listings are up.

I wish to sleep outside many many times this summer. and totally will.

I wish to be in between these beautiful people while watching models struck down a small runway sporting the new Elizabeth and James line.

I wish to go to hip roof top parties in Atlanta, I know they exist...how cute is she?!

anywho, we made it to St. Louis and as expected I slept 6 or so hours of the 8+ hour trip.  Next couple of days are going to be interesting.

Friday was the Great Big No's last night playing together, ever, so my friends and I took it upon ourselves to break down, again.  Back to Mellow we went and this is
what I wore//

I've had everything I'm wearing for a while now but I just found the bow && shades pin, which I attached to one another. Entire outfit is vintage minus the shorts, those are from Old Navy. I found the blouse at american and it was missing a button so I detached every other and replaced with fun red ones, turned out kinda cute.

Tomorrow I'm going to St. Louis for my brother Buck's graduation from Washington University in St. Louis, so exciting.  My family and I are traveling via vehicle and then it on to Birmingham for a wedding on Saturday and then Atlanta on Sunday. We are getting the keys to the new loft that we'll be leasing starting Friday, insane! I have been packing all day and am completely exhausted, but so thrilled to be heading to Atl.

Have a swell night Ladies, and I will hopefully post soon, probably going to bring the laptop for sanity purposes.
